Hula dance class packing list
< Back to Packing & Camping Lists
Hula / Polynesian dance class is my favorite form of exercise - and such a great workout. It is seriously HARD (if you have the right teacher) - but SO rewarding!!! Here is a list of items that I have in my dance bag. WHAT TO BRING:
- Pack all items in one bag & have ready to go each week
- Water - lots of cold water - twice as much as you might think
- Attire - whatever you dance teacher requests - such as a pateo or lava lava, with t-shirt and shorts
- Dance implements - again, what the teacher requests - hand tassel, pu'ili (bamboo sticks), 'uli 'uli, ipu, Maori poi balls
- Shoes - no shoes in class! Wear something easy to slip off before coming into the dance studio
- Paper & pen - so you can take notes
- Cash or check to pay for your class
- Hair clip, elastic - you will be hot!
- Ibuprofen - I take it before class, and bring extra with me in case I forget!
TIPS:
- Practice what you learn in class at home
- Get a good night's rest the night before class
- Eat healthy foods that day of class, not too heavy
- Drinks lot of water all day on class days
- I experience a lot of physical pain during class (it is a really hard workout!) - so I take Ibuprofren before class, as well as my asthma/allergy prescription medication. Check with your doctor first.
- Get to class a few minutes early (I need to work on this!)
- As soon as you leave class, write down a few notes about what you learned, so that you can practice at home.
- Pedicures are always good - you dance in your bare feet!
My favorite dance instructor is Simone with Manea Porinesia!
