Questions when choosing a manicurist

After a week of working in the garden, or before a big event or day at the pool, a good manicure/pedicure can make anyone feel better. But be careful in choosing the salon. Unless the salon uses proper disinfectant and cleaning procedures, you could end up with sore cuticles or infection. Following is a list of questions to consider when choosing a manicurist - take sometime to observe, and ask questions. Call a few salons in your area to ask questions about technique and pricing. Ask your friends. Visit a few salons.
- Are all the tools disposable, disinfected or sterile?
- Are fresh towels used for each customer?
- Are nail clippers, nail files and cuticle tools sterilized in an autoclave or sprayed with disinfectant between each customer?
- Are nail files and buffing tools brand-new for each client?
- Are the floors swept?
- Are tools disinfected?
- Ask to see manicurist’s license. Is it current and displayed?
- Can you bring your own tools? Dirty nail care tools can pass on fungal infections, so consider bringing your own tools and polish.
- Can they store your tools for you?
- Do metal tools go straight into disinfectant after use?
- Do they accept credit cards?
- Do they use excellent hygiene?
- Does the manicurist ask you what length and shape?
- Does the manicurist try to over clip cuticles? They grow back more easily. Instead, they should use cuticle oil, sock and pushback with a special stick.
- Does the manicurist wear gloves? If not, does she clean her hands with anti-bacterial soap and spray with disinfectant between customers?
- Does the salon appear popular? If there are never clients, you should wonder why.
- Does the salon look sterile?
- How are the foot baths cleaned?
- How are the tools cleaned?
- Is the salon brightly lit?
- Is the salon clean?
- Is the salon clean?
- What are the requirements in your state? Do they meet these?
- What is included in the price?
